About Crafty Gift

After completing graduate school I had time to think about the type of consumer I had become.  Although I love unique handmade things, somewhere along the line I managed to succumb to chain store culture.  This came with the realization that I knew very little about the products and food that I bought.  I also started to think about how dependent I was on these types of retailers.  Unlike my mother and grandmother, I never learned to sew, crochet, knit or make foods like bread from scratch.  Reflecting on all of this I decided to take the handmade pledge.
I Took The Handmade Pledge! BuyHandmade.org
This blog is dedicated to my quest to live handmade.  For me this means knowing more about the products and food that I am buying and connecting with the people that are producing them.  It also means learning some of the skills that my mom and grandma mastered long ago and becoming an independent creator.  I hope living a handmade life will help me express my own personal style and say something about who I am and what I love.

CraftyGift.com chronicles my progress and features products, art and ideas that inspire me to live and breathe handmade.  It is also a place to showcase the talents of artists, artisans, crafters and handmade whizzes from around the globe

This blog is run by me (Kristen), a geeky librarian with a passion for the arts.  I couldn’t do it without input and technical help from my husband EBN.  Without his help this blog would not look as good as it does!
